It was, of course, a big event as the legendary athlete was getting married.

In an interview back in 2021, Jane Jones, the wife of Wayne Gretzky, revealed the reaction of the supporters to their wedding. It looks like the Canadians weren’t happy with the “Royal Wedding.” They were afraid of their legend being taken away by the Hollywood icon.

Some of the fans were not happy as they thought Jane was stealing Gretzky away to Hollywood. The supporters even tried to jinx the wedding but were unsuccessful.

“They also said our marriage wouldn’t work, and here we are, 33 years later,” Janet said and added, “They were mean.” She didn’t like the response of the Canadians. It was obvious that no one would ever like to hear those statements on her wedding day.

“But he made me feel like I was beside him, not behind him,” she said, and added, “And so, he brought me right along with his career. So, I loved it.” According to Janet Jones, Gretzky didn’t neglect her for the love he had for sports. He gave his career and his wife the same importance. He did set his priorities right, as she never felt left out.

As anyone would imagine, Wayne Gretzky, being the GOAT, would also have proposed to the Hollywood actress in a pretty huge way. Although that wasn’t the case. It’s quite surprising, but true, that he proposed to her over the phone.

After the proposal over a phone call, he invited her over to dinner, and the rest is history. On July 16, 1988, Wayne Gretzky married Janet Jones. The wedding was organized in a big way anyone could imagine. Of course, it was the wedding of the greatest athlete of all time. The wedding took place in Edmonton, Canada. Gretzky dressed up in a black tuxedo with a bow tie, while Janet dressed up in a white gown with full sleeves.
