In the Stanley Cups final in 2015, Chicago Blackhawks went all in against the Tampa Bay Lighting. With the final score of 2-0, that night, Chicago Blackhawks’ won their sixth NHL Championship. However, amidst the celebration, most of them failed to notice that the heart of their desire is missing from the venue.

When the hunt for the Cup began, it was discovered that it hasn’t been delivered to the venue. Chicago is famous for its windy and cold weather. While the game did not take place during the winter, the weather on that particular evening wasn’t in favor of the event.

According to the reports shared by Fansided, the delivery man responsible for delivering the Cup to the venue said, “Mother Nature was not a hockey fan tonight!” Further investigation into the matter proved that seeking help from the local police wasn’t fruitful either. The cup was out for delivery at the same time the last game began. However, despite deflecting the traffic with the help of the police, it did not reach its destination until after the game ended.

TV networks at the venue were conducting on-spot interviews to stall some time until the Cup arrived. Ultimately, when the much-awaited moment came, the Stanley Cup was presented to the Chicago Blackhawks by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

Well, the incident from 2015 wasn’t the first time the Cup caused a ruckus during the tournament. In the 2015 case, it was missing from the venue due to unforeseeable delays. However, there was once a time when a Cup went missing for several years.

Over half a century ago, the Stanley Cup went missing and wasn’t recovered until many years later. On December 5, 1970, the Stanley Cup along with two other trophies was stolen by some thieves. While the other two trophies, namely the Masterton and Conn Smythe, were retrieved soon after, it took seven years to recover the Stanley Cup.

However, the real story of how it was finally recovered is still not known. But there are different theories on how it happened. The story of how it was recovered is not important. What’s important is that it is now back in safe hands and has been kept so for several decades now.
