“Such a C*** Trade”: Montreal Canadiens Star Defenseman Jeff Petry Moves to Detroit Red Wings Leaving NHL Community Divided

Several fans are enjoying the latest trade updates since their favorite teams are getting some valuable assets. However, many fans are also anxious, thinking one of the key players from their squad may get traded out. Unfortunately, the fears of several Jeff Petry fans just got realized as the star defenseman got traded out by Montreal Canadiens.

A multitude of trades are currently underway in the NHL realm. Along similar lines, the trade of Jeff Petry comes as a big surprise for many. The trade surfaced as a shock and a delight for different fans who gave mixed reactions to the trade.

Jeff Petry gets traded thrice in 13 months

Jeff Petry commands the blueline according to his will. The veteran defenseman uses his mobility to deter the opposing team from scoring. He is not just a defending powerhouse but also heavily contributes to the offense. Jeff Petry may not currently be in his heyday, but he significantly adds massive depth to any squad. The Montreal Canadiens traded the 35-year-old Petry for 24-year-old Gustav Lindstrom. Apart from Lindstrom, the Canadiens also obtained a conditional fourth-round pick for the upcoming 2025 draft. The fourth draft pick for 2025 has a significant chance of falling in Detroit’s arena.

The Montreal Canadiens will also reserve 50 percent pay for Petry’s remaining contract. This is the third time Jeff Petry got traded in the last 13 months. The general manager of Montreal, Kent Hughes, discussed the trade with Jeff Petry. Hughes called Petry and said, “we’re mindful that you’ve got a family and your own career, and Montreal is probably not the place you’re expecting to play.” The trade news was revealed to the fans via an Instagram post by the Detroit Red Wings. However, the trade announcement has left fans divided as they flooded the comment section with a multitude of perspectives. The news sent NHL fans into a frenzy and yielded divided opinions.

Fans trade their opinions about the trade

Some of the Detroit fans were angry because of the trade. They saw the entry of Jeff Petry as a disadvantage for the Red Wings. One such fan said, “Yeah… we’re rebuilding so let’s trade a young guy for an old guy; sound right? This is such a c*** trade.” One of the fans, however, was happy with the trade and said, “Love the trade.” The Instagram post also revealed another big fact about Jeff Petry. While one picture showed the defenseman, another showed the picture of his father, Dan Petry. Interestingly, fans noted that both Detroit players were assigned Jersey number 46.

Several Detroit fans welcomed Jeff Petry. One of the fans welcomed Petry and said, “Welcome home!” Another excited fan said, “Always wanted a Petry Wings jersey.” The Red Wings camp also showed dissatisfaction. One of the fans blatantly commented, “Can he hit?” The managers of both teams counted their benefits from the trade. However, now that the trade has created the anticipation among the fandom, spectators are excited for the upcoming NFL season, in order to see their favorite players in action.
