The NHL legend Wayne Gretzky has been married to wife Janet Janes for more than 30 years now. Though they make it look so easy, the initial stage was not as easy for them as it seems. The Ice Hockey veteran married Jones within three years of their first meet but would the story be the same if they met each other earlier? One year prior to their marriage, Jones confessed in an interview how things could be difficult if they had met before.

Janet Jones weighed in on falling for Gretzky

In an interview with CBC, Jones shared the pros and cons of being the fiance of Canada’s hockey hero. She implied, “…that is why you know to make a great relationship, I mean it’s not that easy in relationships, especially the situation Wayne and I are in and the lives we lead. It’s a little more difficult to make everything work and it seems like we understand each other’s pressures.”

Even though they promised to spend lives with each other, Jones indicated something different back then. In addition to her statements, she said, “It’s a great feeling, well it all works in and I think also timing is very important, maybe we would have met each other a couple of years ago, it wouldn’t have worked.”

Past experiences made them choose a path together. As Jones confirmed, “…long term relationships, whether you know they’re good or bad or heartaches or great times, we learned through ’em…and now we both know what exactly the other one needs...I would say timing and falling in love at the same time is very important”.

After surprisingly proposing to his wife over the phone, Gretzky planned for a ‘royal wedding’ with Jones. The wedding took place in Edmonton, Canada where there was a huge party and the bride and groom looked fabulous in their royal outfits.

Though their marriage seemed delightful to their fans, some bet against it. There were speculations that their bond wouldn’t last long. Though the couple completely demolished these speculations by being together for three decades. Evidently, Gretzky never misses a chance to be the G.O.A.T. in relationships as well.
