In her sixth Paralympic appearance, the 32-year-old athlete started the proceedings by winning the first gold medal for Team USA at the Beijing Winter Paralympics 2022. She won her fifth Paralympic gold in the women’s biathlon sitting sprint today.

Oksana Masters talks about her mom saved her

Before the start of the Beijing Paralympic, Oksana talked about her mom playing the role of savior for her. She said, “besides adopting me, it’s… My mom saved my life twice. She saved me from Ukraine and she saved me by introducing the world of sports to me.”

The champion further added, “my mom was just so persistent, was saying, Just try it one time. You never know you might love it, you might hate it. And you don’t have to go back to it if you don’t like it. But just try it one time. And Oh my gosh, it’s the best thing, and the minute I got on the boat. I’ve never finally felt like I belonged somewhere more in my life. ”

Going into the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, Oksana Masters was the top favorite and performed as per expectations. Overall, it was her 11th Paralympic medal in both the Summer and Winter Games. She now has won Paralympic gold medals in biathlon, cross-country skiing and cycling.
