“Thank you Nebraska Volleyball for the past 3 years of my life. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for the unconditional support from my family, friends, my teammates, my coaches, the staff, and husker nation.” These were the words typed out by Nebraska Huskers star Ally Batenhorst on 8 January when she entered the trade portal.

Ally B played as an outside hitter for the Nebraska Huskers for three seasons, contributing in almost every match. Her decision to leave the team shocked several fans, who looked forward to seeing her lift the 2024 NCAA title with Nebraska. But, in an unexpected turn of events, Batenhorst’s departure has come to a halt. In fact, she may don the Nebraska jersey in 2024 as well.

Ally B to spend more time with the Nebraska Huskers

Ally B has been on the trading portal for almost 20 days now. However, she doesn’t have a new place to call home so far. In light of the unavailability of a new school, the Nebraska Huskers student-athlete will need to extend her stay. This was a very unexpected buildup, which may now lead to an unexpected middle way for Batenhorst.

Sadly for the Husker Nation, Ally B will not be joining the Nebraska Huskers Volleyball Team. However, there’s a possibility that fans will see her hit the sand as a Husker. Batenhorst has a chance to utilize her time as a student and an athlete if she joins the beach volleyball roster.

This would be a temporary measure for the outside hitter, who still awaits to join a new school to finish her degree. This is a fair arrangement made by the Nebraska Huskers for Batenhorst, but it would still be unsatisfactory for her. The 6’5” player desperately needed to move to a new school. In fact, Ally B made the move after realizing that she’ll find herself sidelined in the 2024 roster.

Why the transfer portal was the best decision for Batenhorst

The 2024 Nebraska Huskers Volleyball squad is going to be completely jacked up. The team has a great transfer in Taylor Landfair and a star high school recruit, Skyler Pierce. Moreover, the 2024 season will see Harper Murray and Merritt Beason get stronger than before, and a return of Lindsay Krause. All these players play the outside hitter position and are very strong in the department.

While this is great for the Nebraska Huskers as a team, it is not in the best interest of Ally B as a player. Batenhorst got the job as a hitter for Nebraska. But the current roster has players who can do much more and have incredible stats unlike her. Thus, she needs a place where she can still play and grow. Will Batenhorst be able to find a new Division 1 team soon?
