Brandon revealed that Gable will not be wrestling for the Gophers this season. Gable has been a part of Gophers and is renowned as a heavyweight champion and 125kg Olympics gold medalist.

In the same video, the coach said, “Unfortunately, he will not be able to compete for us this season. ” He added, “He’s a great competitor; he’s always wanted to compete for the University of Minnesota. But ultimately, the WWE would prefer that he solely focus on his professional wrestling career at this time.” Since Stevenson is in the final year of eligibility, there is a high chance that he will never return to the collegiate wrestling mat again.

What will Gable do instead of returning to Gophers wrestling?

Gable’s duties for WWE kept him from participating in collegiate wrestling. Recently, Gable appeared at the ongoing WWE SmackDown and will be slated for more similar events in the future. In the same interview, Eggum added, “We just can’t thank him enough for the impact he’s had on our program…We love following him and watching him compete on the mat. He’s amazing, and now we’re excited to watch him in his WWE career.”

Back in 2022, Steveson joined WWE after winning his second NCAA Championship in 2021. He had only one year of eligibility remaining, but because of the waiver granted by the NCAA because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he could use it in both the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons. In light of the present scenario, the Gophers have to prepare for the upcoming season without Steveson in the squad.
