Lindsey Vonn Recalls ‘Military Camp’ Style Training as ‘Aggressive’ Path to Olympics

Lindsey Vonn has grown to be a name synonymous with excellence in the alpine skiing realm. From miles away ski club practice sessions to the stages of the Olympics, the 4-time World Cup overall champion has embraced the role of an inspirational figure and a figure millions aspire to adorn. However, the journey to the pedestal wasn’t exactly a regular one.

To attain the heights Lindsey Vonn has attained, rigorous training is in the books without a word. Today as she persists in her passion off the competitive grounds, battling injuries and obligations, the 39-year-old recalls the path that led her up the ladder and beyond.

Lindsey Vonn, the Olympic gold medalist recently spoke of the time she had to leave home to get her training when she was falling off the pace. According to the story by the skiing star, she traveled to Monaco to stay and train with her new Polish trainer in his 1 bedroom apartment with him and his wife. But the difficult part of it all was the training methods infused. “I spent two summers there and some parts of winter. It was hell on earth, it was like a military camp,” she remarks.

“It was like tearing you down to build back up. He showed me how to push my body,” she adds. The Olympian was apparently given a 2-gear bicycle to ride up the mountain without pulling a stop. She recalls that it was like “‘Don’t give her water’ kind of ‘aggressive’.” With that, Lindsey Vonn learned nothing could be as hard as the training she was then receiving.

However, for the icon, it was what needed to be done to ‘be better’. “It was either I do that and get better or I don’t do this and quit,” and for millions that look up today and for Lindsey Vonn herself, the endurance was a grateful step.

A chain of positive effect

Lindsey Vonn has been a known advocate of mental health, of empowering women and their dreams. The 39-year-old has even set up the Lindsey Vonn Foundation, which empowers underserved girls to grow as individuals across education, sports, and the arts. Standing on the pedestal she does, the skiing icon doesn’t want to put her position to waste. Rather, help people coming behind her, have a better atmosphere than she did.

 “I want to leave it better than I found it,” she says speaking of promoting the sport. “I was inspired by my idol, Picabo Street who triggered the chain reaction me following my dreams… so I wanna create a ripple effect that lasts.” And today, Lindsey Vonn might well be on the path she intends to walk.
