Mikaela Shiffrin Breaks Season Curse Despite Major Upsets At Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2023/24

Looks like Mikaela Shiffrin is finally back in form today after a major string of upsets! American alpine skiing community has been anticipating Mikaela’s in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2023/24 since its opening day. In recent races, Mikaela and Petra Vlhová, a promising skier from Slovakia, have been the tough rivals vying for the coveted reindeer. And despite Shiffrin’s post last Thursday describing a “bone bruise” after practice, the support didn’t stop.

Given this, the victor of the slalom World Cup competitions in Levi, Finland, the Lapland resort’s home of the season’s slalom races, has given the latest results from the conclusion day!

Yesterday the 28-year-old American skier recorded a time of 54.21, facing defeat against Vlhova. Despite securing the third position in 2022, Shiffrin found herself in fourth place on opening day this time. The challenges continued during the slalom Day 2 however, Mikaela prevailed to victory at first place reported FIS. Meanwhile, German skier Lena Duerr came in second, a step up from her yesterday’s third finish after the first lap.

Once again, Finland and Levi positioned themselves as the benchmark for the early season win for Mikaela. As the race unfolded, the twice Olympic champion eagerly embraced the challenging slalom course, aiming to enhance her remarkable record of 53 career victories in the sport. The spectacular turn of events that gave Shiffrin her seventh victory in Levi. With this win, Shiffrin’s advantage over Vlhova, whose record in Levi sits at six wins.

The stakes were high, and the atmosphere was charged with anticipation despite her on and off-slope setbacks. However earlier today, Shiffrin claimed the second spot with a time of 56.68. Self-crediting her resilience after the podium return, Shiffrin said, “After the last 10 days it’s been a little bit difficult to imagine me racing here. So it means a lot.” Now, taking her 89th title, Mikaela is back on the run for her 100th title! And amusingly, it was more than the podium finish for her today.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s most remarkable slalom win!

Shiffrin made history by becoming the first female skier to win seven slaloms at a single location. She also broke the tie with former Austrian skier Marcel Hirscher for the second-most podiums in Alpine skiing history with her 139th World Cup podium in addition to her historic triumph in the slalom. With 155 podiums, Ingemar Stenmark, the renowned Swedish skier, owns the record.
