The 2023-24 skiing season was heading down a positive trajectory for Mikaela Shiffrin until she incurred a knee injury from a crash on January 26th. Though it was reported as nothing major initially, the skiing icon’s MCL and Tib-Fib ligament sprain on knee and ankle kept her off the slopes for well over six runs. However, with her heart in the sport, Shiffrin is aiming to return at the earliest opportunity.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s publicist Megan Harrod recently reported on the skiing star’s recovery and “4-6 week” timeline from the incident. With a return possibility lingering around early March, Shiffrin is seen constantly in her rehab sessions, allowing good-looking progress in a recent update.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist has seen a fairly happy path down her rehab journey as per updates. From snowy slopes to the sandy beaches, Mikaela Shiffrin seems to be making light of the grueling process. Her recent Instagram update on recovery proved exactly that, as she adopted creative measures. “Proprioceptive work today, with a side of creativity,” she captioned her post. In the clip attached, the skiing star can be seen balancing on a wobbly ball.

The activity is known to enhance the perception of proprioceptive signals further, inclining towards improving motor function and performance. However, while the progress has been good, Mikaela Shiffrin revealed her “knee cannot handle the load of racing just yet.” The process, unfortunately, might push the star down in the race to her dream.

Mikaela Shiffrin has led the World Cup standings from the very beginning of the season. Despite being off the grounds for a while, the position was still marked by her name until last weekend, when Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami took a five-point lead for 1214. Nonetheless, Shiffrin still leads the industry with an unprecedented 95 career victories.

But what matters more to the icon is getting her hand on the World Cup overall title. “Would be the biggest accomplishment,” Mikaela Shiffrin remarks on the possibility of attaining the female record-tying sixth overall crown. But while the situation seems dire about embracing the dream, the Olympian hasn’t let go of the thoughts of returning soon.

The update reported that Mikaela Shiffrin is improving day by day and soon will be introduced to skiing in the rehab. “We knew Åre was *likely* going to be the target, but didn’t rule out a shorter timeline in case my symptoms and load tolerance improved quicker,” Shiffrin says. With that in place, the skiing star may make an appearance by March 9th to mark the regular season end by the least.
