Talking about the alternatives, the president proposed that the country should host its own events and should invite “international athletes, clubs [and] teams.”

Evgeny Rylov suspended for nine months

Putin also criticized the suspension of Russian swimming sensation Evgeny Rylov by FINA. The Russian president calls it “absurd.” Earlier, the international swimming body suspended the Olympic champion for nine months for attending a pro conflict rally in Russia. This means that Rylov will not be able to attend the world championship in Budapest this year.
