Alpine skiing queen Lindsey Vonn attended Thom Browne’s first couture show in Paris in July. She looked stunning in a floor-length emerald green skirt and white blouse. She also carried a Thom Browne’s signature dachshund-shaped bag to honor the designer’s amusing work. But her association with the fashion world did not end there. The celebrated alpine skiing legend recently attended the USTA Foundation’s Opening Night Gala and stood shoulder to shoulder with a designer worth $650 million.

Lindsey Vonn appeared in the same frame with Vera Wang, a fashion icon and a wedding dress designer. Several dignitaries and celebrities attended the event and helped the noble cause.

The foundation raises money through the Gala to support the National Junior Tennis & Learning network across the country. Both Vera Wang and Lindsey Vonn were happy to lend their support to such a worthy cause. Tennis superstars Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic headlined the event alongside the living legend Billie Jean King.

Among the guests were former First Lady Michelle Obama, American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, comic genius Danny DeVito, and fashion mogul Anna Wintour, to name just a few. Renowned designer Vera Wang, who brought her signature style and elegance to the USTA Foundation’s Opening Night Gala shared a few pictures on social media from the event. She captioned the iconic snapshots on Instagram, as, “About last week, Opening Night USTA. Thank you to David and Cheryl Scharf for hosting us all yet again and…thanks to all, more than 3 million dollars was raised in two hours!”.

Vera Wang posed alongside the organizers and some of the celebrity guests, including the glamourous Lindsey Vonn, to commemorate the success of the event.

Katie Couric, the event’s host and the Celebrity Advisory Council member, led the auction. At the auction, memorabilia from Vera Wang and also other celebrities were sold to raise funds. It was a combined effort that went into making this event a huge success.

Collective effort shines

Kathleen Wu, the USTA Foundation Board President, expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in the event. She said, “The generosity of our donors and corporate partners will have a tangible impact on tens of thousands of young people across the country”. She also thanked everyone for helping the Foundation prepare the next generation of the sport.

The Gala also honored Chris Evert, the USTA Foundation chairperson, with a “Serving Up Dreams” award. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion had done a lot for the Foundation and helped it achieve its goals.

But the humble tennis legend thanked the donors instead. Among the major donors was Peter Cancro, CEO of Jersey Mike. He raised $4 million by rerouting 20% of his income to the Foundation during the US Open’s final weekend. He wasn’t the only entrepreneur among the guests, which also included famous businessman and ‘Shark Tank’ investor Daymond John.

The USTA Foundation 2023 Opening Night Gala will remain the highlight of the Foundation’s achievements thanks to the donations from Vera Wang, Lindsey Vonn and other celebrity guests. The money raised during the event will be used in the welfare of the budding Tennis prodigies.
