The week has been a tough ride for the 2-time Olympic medalist, Aleksander Kilde, his girlfriend and alpine skiing icon, Mikaela Shiffrin, and all the close ones around. From Kilde’s grueling injury to the podium, standing a couple of days later, Shiffrin has held onto a heaving heart to brave through. Today, as the Downhill champion has remained resilient against the unforeseen circumstances and continues to keep on, Shiffrin holds her end.

On Saturday the 13th, Aleksander owning 6 podium finishes this World Cup, raced his final trail for the season. The 31-year-old, inches away from the finishing line, slid into the flying net and bounced off further. The incident left the downhiller with a dislocated shoulder, a cut, and multiple bruises. 6 days later, he stood to provide a well-progressed update, trailed by more surgeries, and Mikaela Shiffrin could not hide her admiration.

Aleksander Kilde took to his Instagram to provide a health update 6 days into surgery. “Thank you to everyone for your support…just a quick update from my end,” Kilde began. Stating that he had now settled down in Innsbruck with his family, he was gearing up for another surgery that afternoon. The surgery would concern the two torn ligaments in his shoulders. “This is just a bump in the road… It’s tough, but these opportunities show us what we’re made of. I’m looking forward to tackling this challenge and will try to enjoy the process as much as I can,” he wrote. Mikaela Shiffrin, sharing the post, added, “Your strength is beyond impressive…”

Further under the post, the icon also added a little ‘love you’ note with healing hearts. To no one’s surprise, the expression might as well have comprised the least number of words from Mikaela Shiffrin. From airlift from the site to the final update today, the 2-time Olympic medallist has adorned warmth plenty.

In one of her earlier updates by Aleksander Kilde, he revealed that he was in the hospital and was ‘being taken care of by the one and only @MikaelaShiffrin’. Watching Aleks on TV during the incident, Shiffrin rushed with her family to be by the Downhiller. “Made me want to burn down the universe,” were Shiffrin’s words, reminiscing about the initial moments. And when she needed to get back on track for her slalom race away from Aleks, Shiffrin warned herself to make it worth it. Winning her 94th title, Shiffrin stood by her condition.
