Lindsey Vonn is one of a kind and there is no denying that. This Alpine Skiing legend began her journey on the icy slope at just three years old. Vonn’s first Olympic break was at the 2002 Winter Olympics when she was barely 17. Yet, even with years of practice, the veterans may have their share of jitters too. Often, to overcome these, athletes will develop a certain ritual to “reaffirm” themselves.

So, just like wearing a headphone to drown out excess noise or warming up before starting the course, Lindsey has also developed a pre-race ritual. Her quirks were revealed to the world after a 2016 interview. In the interview she spilled her guts, talking about her first marriage, dating Tiger Woods, and many more things. It was here she also detailed her pre-race practice.

“still visualizing courses”: Lindsey Vonn shares her ritual

As a practice, courses are visualized by athletes before the rain starts, preferably in summer. Either this or they do a simulated practice in real-time. But, for a veteran like Vonn that is never enough. She is highly competitive and one of the most recognized Alpine Skiing athletes around the globe for a reason.

So, no doubt, it is very important for her to make some big moves. In her interview, Vonn revealed that she visualizes her race course before her race, but there’s a catch. She does it in her mind! She said that the night before her race, she would go over her race course in her mind, calculating her moves.
