It hasn’t been a smooth sail for the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2023/24 with the persisting circumstances. Scheduling almost 90 races across Men’s and Women’s, the alpine skiing world’s sought-after race set off on the 28th of October. However, as the finest of the sporting field flew through for a fierce showdown, the season hasn’t been free of obstacles.

The 2023/24 World Cup proceeded today to put forth a spectacle for the 6th leg of the Women’s tour. Following the SG, the St. Mortiz stood to host Down Hill only to follow a persisting pattern.

For the 9th of December, the Corviglia ski course in Switzerland is hosting the 2nd day of the tour’s 6th leg. With Down Hill in action, Mikaela Shiffrin is currently in the lead with 1:28.84 on the clock. However, as the rest of the racers awaited their turns, reports state that the contest had been met with an interruption for no clear reasons. But with a few more minutes on the clock, the race was back on the tracks, and thankfully so for the alpine skiing legend, Mikaela Shiffrin.

Shiffrin has been having a roller coaster of a ride this season. Winning some and slipping in others, the skier has been fighting strong. With currently two wins to her name and losing out on one yesterday, the cancelation would surely have affected the 2-Olympic gold medalist’s trajectory. Nonetheless, looking at the World Cup’s proceeding this season, one could only be thankful that the event did not face the climate’s wrath for the 5th time.

Climate adorns a stronghold

This wasn’t the first time that the women’s Downhill faced an interruption. The season-opening Downhill race on the 18th and 19th of November encountered a cancellation due to strong winds. The circumstances affected Italian downhill queen Sofia Goggia. The two-time Olympic Downhill medalist was looking to start with a stellar opening to race toward her fourth consecutive downhill crystal globe and fifth of her career. Which Mikaela Shiffrin had sat out of.

As for the men’s the event has been canceled 3 times with scores marked just once on the board. Strong winds and heavy snowfall constituted the reasons for cancellations of Men’s stops. “Of course we are sad, but it is part of skiing. It’s neither the first or last time that races will be canceled,” said Vincent Kriechmayr according to Fis-ski. Simon Jocher added, “It’s not a good feeling waiting around for races to start, but we prepare every day and try to be ready if there is a race happening.”

One take at a time

I was a little kid when my dad brought home a second horse out of his sheer love for the creatures. The excitement to ride and care for one from the first moment still gets to me as I watch the horses in action today; covering the intensity on the field. However, along the way of being immersed in the wider ground of equestrian sports, rodeo and bull riding lingered in the sight.
