The alpine skiing world is actively shipping the love affair between Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. And when it comes to giving fodder to this obsession, there is none better than this couple. Whether it is friendly competitions, twining at parties, or pulling elaborate pranks, their relationship is full of fun and surprises. The two star-crossed lovers are each other’s biggest influence, but when it comes to the important things, the American legend gets her way.  

Recently, Aleksander Kilde sought the fans’ opinion on a fashion choice. Thousands of people responded to the social media post, but the final say remained with Mikaela Shiffrin. Here’s what happened.

The Norwegian alpine skier was with his skiing buddies when he suddenly took to Instagram to ask a serious question. He wrote, “It’s Movember, and the stache is baaaaaaaack. What do you guys think?! Keep it or shave it? Vote below in the comments”. Among the thousands of pollers in the comment section was the love of his life, who wrote, “KEEEPPPP heheheh. Now, it seems, Kilde had to succumb to her wishes.” In a recent Instagram post, the world champion from the Birds of Prey course, the Olympic silver medalist, sported a moustache on his determined face. He cheekily captioned the post, “It is decided…the mustache shall stay for Birds of Prey.🥸(Note: @mikaelashiffrin’s vote was really the only one that counted, anyway”.  

Aside from his devotion to Mikaela Shiffrin, there was also a practical reason for such a style choice. Kilde “started taking cold showers” to prepare for the start of the season at the Birds of Prey course in Beaver Creek. Facial hair can provide that extra bit of insulation in trying weather conditions. Kilde and Shiffrin are coinhabiting a flat in Innsbruck, and the Norwegian ace believes this distance will help their relationship bloom.

In an exclusive interview with Olympics.com, Aleksander Kilde said, “To give a space for your partner and also other human beings is something I’ve experienced as being really cool and a great way of living”. Both Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Kilde respect each other’s privacy. Nevertheless, there is no room for games or secrecy in their relationship. Commenting on his relationship with the American legend, Kilde candidly said, “It’s been a little bit round edges and not taking yourself too seriously”.
