Lindsey Vonn Slammed Bias in Handling Serena Williams’ Aggression, Calling Out Bias for Male Athletes Like John McEnroe in Her Book: “Don’t Think She Should Be Penalized”

Lindsey Vonn, the Olympian alpine skiing racer, amassed 82 World Cup titles during her illustrious career. Her decisions after retirement from mainstream skiing suggest that resting on laurels is the last thing on her mind. The accomplished skiing racer is an NYT Best-Selling Author and a dynamic businesswoman. In her autobiography, Rise: My Story, she gives a compelling comparison to explain why she defends Serena Williams’ fierce nature. People won’t forget Vonn’s support for the tennis legend regarding the French Interview Controversy.

The three-time Olympic medallist went on a book tour for months to promote her book. She puts forth several compelling thoughts and ideas in her book. In one of the chapters of her book, she writes about the double standards female athletes are forced to accept while quoting Serena Williams, the ace tennis player.

Lindsey Vonn makes a valid point

In her autobiography, Lindsey wrote about why it is unfair to discipline Serena Williams for calling the chair umpire a thief during the U.S. Open final. She said, “I don’t think she should be penalized for it when her male counterparts aren’t.”

She wrote about John McEnroe to describe the sad situation of female athletes. McEnroe is famous for being vocally aggressive and describes people find him entertaining. Vonn pops a question. “What if a woman does that?” The answer is clear. She said such behavior or anything close to it they would deem unacceptable. If McEnroe had been a woman, she would have been kicked off the court.

She defended the G.O.A.T’s comment on the umpire by saying, “You don’t have to agree with it, but she’s not breaking any rules.”

Lindsey’s take on the pressure in sports

Vonn also said that sports are wrapped in a lot of pressure and emotion and it was natural to react to that from time to time. She added, “Especially when someone knocks you.” To match the burgeoning competitiveness in the world of sports, one has to develop the art of maintaining a balance between aggressiveness and calmness.
