Recently, 30 people, including Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, have allegedly been scammed for around $1.2 billion by an investment firm named SSL. The matter is currently being investigated by Jamaica’s Financial Services Commission (FSC). In light of recent events, their Finance Minister has come forward to show support for the investment community.

The matter came to light when Bolt and his team noticed a discrepancy in his account. From $10 million, his savings had suddenly come down to just $2000. As per the reports, until the time the investigations are underway, Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) has been prohibited from taking part in any sale or trading without prior permission from the FSC. The Finance Minister of Jamaica has recently released a statement addressing the issue.

Jamaica’s Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, claims to share the same sentiments of “anger and disgust” as his fellow Jamaicans while addressing the alleged million-dollar scam. However, Clarke has requested the citizens to not judge the entire financial sector in the same light because of one firm. While the situation is alarming, Clarke has full faith in the concerned authorities to bring justice to those who deserve it.

Attempting to do some damage control, the FM said, “It is tempting to doubt our financial institutions but I would ask that we don’t paint an entire hard-working industry with the brush of a few very dishonest individuals.
