Italy had a dream run in the track & field events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. This included winning the 4X100 meters relay, 50 km walk, 20 km walk, High jump, and the 100 meters race. A key figure behind this monumental achievement of Italy was athletics star Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who won gold at both the 100m race and the 4X100 m relay. However, at a recent championship, his position slipped to a silver medal, and this gave another track & field athlete, a chance to take a dig at him.
American sprinter Fred Kerley, who lost out the gold medal to Marcell Jacobs at the Tokyo 2020 100m event, recently spoke about Jacobs’ performance at the European Indoor championships. And his words were far from kind to the Italian sprinter.

Attached alongside was a small clip, in which Anson Henry asks Kerley, “What did you think about Marcell’s performance at the Europeans?” Kerley’s initial reaction was so cold, that it set the tone for whatever controversial words followed and he simply laughed it off.

Henry further pushed Kerley and asked, “Is he a real dog?” And Kerley replied, “I don’t think so. I’m just gonna be truthful”. There were four people in the clip, and they collectively gasped at Kerley’s cold-shouldered remark at Jacobs. Whether Jacobs was simply throwing shade at his 100m rival from Tokyo 2020, or the two have some legitimate beef between them, isn’t out in the open yet. Jacobs hasn’t responded to Kerley’s recent claims yet. But the Italian sprinter was in dreamland after winning the 100m event in Tokyo, as it was a shock defeat for Fred Kerley.
