Sue Bird, a legendary WNBA player, announced her retirement from the game following Seattle Storm’s playoff loss to Las Vegas Aces. Several well-known figures from the sport and beyond, congratulated Bird on a remarkable career. However, Bird went through an emotional farewell from her fans.

During an interview with ESPN, she addressed her emotions she was going through while playing the last game of her career.

Sue Bird’s overwhelming moment

Despite the loss and Sue’s longstanding sadness after the match, people appreciated her for contributing to the team. Her fans gave her a standing ovation during her farewell in the last match. Sue previously planned to retire; however, she stopped as her fans pleaded with her for one more year.

Sue told ESPN, “I didn’t really want to leave the court. It felt like that’s where everybody was going, so I just followed at first. But I also wanted to kind of have one last moment to say thank you, to soak it all in, because in some ways it is a happy thing.”

Talking about her emotions, she stated, “I then think, as the emotions started to come to the surface, that’s also when I knew deep down that that was my last game. So it was a combination of those two things, but overall it just feels kind of weird.” During her last match, the Las Vegas Aces ended the Storm’s playoff run, breaking Sue Bird’s prediction of winning with her last match. It would have been wonderful to go with a great fifth NBA championship, but what she accomplished in all these years is the epitome of brilliance.

Legendary achievements of Sue Bird

Sue Bird is a prominent athlete who has won numerous championships, titles, and victories. Sue Bird won five gold medals while playing in Olympics. In 2021, she was recognized as the USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year. The superwoman has many accomplishments, including 19 seasons, eight All-WNBA selections, thirteen All-Star selections, four WNBA titles, and the most assists in WNBA history.

Many celebrities complimented her achievements after her retirement. The list included the big names of the Basketball world. Meanwhile, her fiancee, Megan Rapinoe‘s gestures after retirement stood above all. From time to time, Megan complimented Sue’s achievement by calling her a hardworking and remarkable woman. In addition, the couple got engaged in 2020 after dating each other for three years.
