Tadej Pogacar lost the Grande Boucle 2023 to the Dane after losing momentum on Col de la Loze. Lance supposed that the Slovenian did not sleep well after his previous day’s loss. Pogacar had raced against Vingegaard in the time trial round on the last day and lost the race by two minutes. Armstrong was bewildered, looking for a reason for Pogacar’s troubles. He assumed it could be because of a sprained wrist or mental collapse due to the pressure. He could not safely detect the real cause of the ace cyclist’s declining performance.

In a small Instagram clip shared by Wedu, the organization that sponsors Lance’s show The Move, the infamous American said, “His biggest problem is Jonas Vingegaard”. For fifteen days, the Slovenian cyclist tried his best to pull ahead of Vingegaard but failed. Every time he lost by a slight margin. Armstrong said, “You saw him, he didn’t look good on the bike, the heat could also have played a part”. The former cyclist also listed other reasons for Pogacar’s troubles at the Tour de France. Pogacar himself has spoken about the reasons that contributed to his loss.

Tadej Pogacar’s perspectives on the loss

Tadej Pogacar’s dream of winning the Tour de France was shattered at the Col de la Loze, where the steep climb was too much for him. The Slovenian blamed the heat that completely enervated him. His wrist was also giving him trouble after the injury at Liège. Pogacar did not have a clean finish on the Tour and crashed into another cyclist on the Col des Saisies. He reached the finish line six minutes after winner Jonas Vingegaard.

Armstrong provided other reasons for Pogacar’s troubles. He said that Tadej had failed to figure out when the Tour would happen and, as a result, could not prepare for it. He added, “Allan Peiper is a missing component for him”. Tadej relied heavily on Allan to train and prepare him for the race. Allan left the UAE team because of health problems, which might have affected the great athlete. Whatever the reason, his fans hope Tadej Pogacar will bounce back from this recent failure.
