Dave Portnoy is famous for his controversial take on various sports topics. Recently, he made the mistake of calling NBA Champion Kyrie Irving ‘trash’ on social media. Now the pro basketball player has come back for some justified retribution. With a comment about Portnoy’s karmic debt, this legendary basketball player has issued an open challenge to him.

The NBA athlete in question is Dallas Mavericks star defense Kyrie Irving. Portnoy’s beef with him began even before Irving joined the Nets in 2019. His jabs against the athlete became more intense when news broke that Kyrie Irving was actively trying to bring former teammate LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks. As a loyal Celtics fan, Dave Portnoy was furious, but it came to nothing when James decided to continue with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, both Portnoy and Irving have found a new bone to pick with each other.

Kyrie Irving is not someone who would take the mocking lying down. He issued an open challenge to Portnoy on an X post stating, “If you ever wanna lace ”em up and play ones and earn my respect, instead of always running your mouth, I am here”. The Barstool Sports president accepted the one-on-one challenge and even decided on the venue for their highly anticipated showdown. Mike Gunzelman, popular as Gunz Show, decided to do a story on the rivalry, but Irving was not having it. He sent the same challenge to Gunzelman, who shut him down with an insult saying Irving wasn’t worth his time. With this, Mike Gunzelman also entered Uncle Drew’s naughty list.

Dave Portnoy started the feud in 2019 with a blog post titled “I Have A Confession To Make – I Hate Kyrie Irving”. He explained that his hate began when the Dallas Mavericks point guard shared an anti-semitic book on social media. As a proud Jewish man, he could not sit idly by and let his faith be disrespected.  As most fights on social media go, the feud between Dave Portnoy and Kyrie Irving quickly escalated.

Now, as per reports on Marca, Kyrie Irving recently said, “I still owe two people on Twitter a one-on-one …Gunz Show and dude from Barstool, David Portnoy”. There is a high possibility that these heated exchanges will transcend the realm of social media and spill over into real-life confrontations.

From tweets to courtside feats

Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving has a deep disgust for media pundits who comment on his craft. He is especially irate about their baseless opinion without ever stepping into the court. Now Dave Portnoy wishes to prove the worth of his opinion by defeating Irving in a one-on-one match. But Portnoy has a bum shoulder and will probably have difficulty against the 1.88 m tall professional basketball player.
