Equestrian World Mourns the Passing of $704,230 Worth Horse, After His Thrilling Triumph in Grade 3 Stakes

The sport of equestrianism has often garnered scrutiny for the euthanasia of equine partners following injuries. Apart from being such an enthralling sport, horse death has constantly left a big question mark within the industry. These fatalities have sparked concern amongst equestrian enthusiasts, as several horses have tragically lost their lives due to various reasons. A heart-wrenching tragedy has again struck the equestrian community as a Grade 3 winning gelding lost his life on Sunday.

The most poignant aspect of this news is that the horse had just won a race recently, and the tragic incident occurred when the gelding suffered a fatal injury while in transit. His demise has left the fans, and the owners saddened.

The calamitous equestrian incident

Nobody Listens, a five-year-old gelding met a catastrophic end on Sunday. It was a trailer accident that claimed the life of the poor soul. In the most recent start of his career, Indiana-based Nobody Listens achieved a remarkable feat after winning the Grade III Turf Monster Stakes at Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

The news of his demise was reported by Matt Kwiatkowski who wrote a heartfelt message on his Facebook handle.

Kwiatkowski wrote “Yesterday was one of the greatest days when Nobody Listens won the Grade 3 Monster at Parx. Today was one of the worst. Nobody Listens had an unforeseen and unpreventable trailer incident resulting in us losing him.”  However, there were no further details available on the incident.

The gelding made many heads turn his way when Tyler Gaffalione ridden and equine led from start to finish in the Turf Monster, securing victory by a three-length margin and claiming the $132,000 winner’s share of the guaranteed $250,000 purse. In his career, he has cliched multiple accolades that need to be acknowledged.

His small but impactful career

He started his career in 2020 and his lineage traces back to his sire, Conveyance, and his dam, Royalesque. The horse was trained by Tim Eggleston and apart from Kwiatkowski he was co-owned by Jason Kaylor and Roger Browning. He was bred in the United States, specifically in Indiana, by Southern Chase Farm, Inc., Karen Dodd, and Greg Dodd.

In 26 starts of his career he achieved the podium finish in 14 of them while finishing second in seven races. His career was worth over $704,230 and out of which 339,740 came in 2023 in eight starts.

His major stakes wins include Grade III Monster Stakes in 2023, 2023 Parx Dash, 2023 Brickyard, 2023 Big Daddy, etc. The horse has created countless memories and touched the hearts of many. With these accolades under his belt, he will be forever remembered for all the positive contributions he made to the sport of equestrian.
