The equestrian world is rife with talent but very rarely do young talents break into the scene so vociferously and splendidly. Christian Simonson, the young equestrian is particularly making an established presence in the equestrian industry through his dressage excellence. Starting at the age of 5, Simonson has never let go of a chance to make his way up the ladder. The 21-year-old, in compliance with his persisting passion, contested on the national level at the mere age of 13. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that FEI competitions became his playing ground.

From multiple Youth Championships to the FEI Dressage Nations Cup, Simonson has walked a long path happy and well. Joining on this beautifully heartwarming sojourn for the most recent part was the equestrian athlete companion; Son of a Lady. The duo has raced through numerous contests and accolades to reach a milestone, thus calling for a celebration. Recently, fans were swooning over a wholesome throwback appreciation post by Simonson.

Simonson adorably shares gratitude for equine partner

On the 16th of November, the young equestrian took to Instagram to cherish a 2-year milestone with his equine Sonny. Simonson took a moment to share a series/carousel of 10 pictures, celebrating the bond right from the first show to the last. Resharing the post on his story, Simonson wrote, “OFFICIALLY 2 YEARS WITH SONNY,” further added, “FROM OUR FIRST SHOW,” referring to the first bright frame of him and the horse in the post.

The 12-year-old Danish Warmblood has been Simonson’s winning partner in many of his wins through the past 2 years. “He was supposed to be a U25 horse for me, and he’s just kind of become the wonder horse that could and we’ve gone all over the world now, and…he’s just an incredible horse,” Simonson expressed after one of their many career wins states Horse Network.

Simonson and Sonny’s equestrian journey is a tale as old as time

Christian has earned multiple gold and silver medals throughout his journey in the FEI. An individual silver at the Youth Championships in 2017, team silver in 2018, and 3 golds in 2021 have been a few of the youngster’s coveted titles. However, when Son of a Lady came along, the duo knew not to stop the all-pervasive momentum with their ever-growing list of crowns.

The first known win for the duo was recognized at the CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival in 2023. The same year, they finished third in the FEI Young Riders Freestyle twice. But the most esteemed win was presented at the 2023 U.S. Dressage Championships. In August, Simonson and Sonny reigned the winners of Small Tour Champions at Lamplight Equestrian Centre in Wayne, ILL. Together, they put a score of 73.469% on the first day and 74.015% during the finals to clinch the title. Following the win, Simonson stated, “He feels like gold when you ride him,” and the duo has stood to prove the stance.
