’Have No Recollection”: Despite Losing Memory, Olympian Shane Rose Is Still Eyeing Paris Olympics 2024 Goals

Shane Rose, a three-time Olympic equestrian medallist, recently took to disclose the occurrences after the tragic riding accident on March 14. As he continues to make progress in his recovery, he reveals that he is unable to recollect the moment of the accident.  The accident has left him with multiple concerning injuries, including a broken femur, pelvis fracture, broken ribs and elbow, and a heavy concussion, although the memory of the incident fails him as he remains optimistic.

The Australian equestrian, Rose, has a phenomenal Olympic history clinching silver medals at the Beijing and Tokyo Olympics and a bronze at Rio in 2016. Hence, despite the devastating setback, he is nonetheless motivated to pursue his Olympic dream in Paris.

The YouTube channel of “A Current Affair,” took to post an exclusive interview with Shane Rose in the recent episode titled, “Olympic medallist’s determination to make it to Paris after fall.” The 50-year-old eventer suffered a huge fall from his horse Virgil during a cross-country session after which he was rushed to intensive care. He had almost made his qualification for the Olympics by winning an event in New Zealand, before the accident.

In hindsight, Rose claims that he has no recollection of the tragic event, as he vaguely recalls riding four experienced horses in the morning. According to him, the spectators believe that the horse Bandit may have clipped a jump. Rose adds, “I think maybe the horse got a little confused in a technical aspect and potentially hit the jump and fell over the jump, and knowing the injuries that I’ve got, I think the horse must have then fallen on me and rolled over the top of me.”

Talking about his Olympic aspirations at the cusp of the accident, he remains focused on his recovery and future goals. It has left Shane with approximately four months until the Olympics, calculating the time even in and out of consciousness. Despite the injuries, Rose maintained a lighthearted attitude, while thanking his wife and fellow rider, Niki Rose, for her relentless support. “He wasn’t quite sure who he was or where he was or what year it was or what date it was when it happened,” she remarked.

While initially, Rose had negative thoughts because of pain and frustration, he later took an optimistic turn with small victories like taking a shower. The accident comes after Rose got a clearance from the controversy for wearing a mankini at a show-jumping event. However, he was later cleared by Equestrian Australia.

Shane and his team continue to remain hopeful that the accident will not obstruct his participation in the Paris Olympic Games.
