In 2019, Jennifer Gates appeared in an interview with CNN to talk about balancing her equestrian career with academic commitments. In that conversation, she gave away the sport that her father plays at times.

Jennifer Gates on her passion for equestrian

During her interview with CNN, Jennifer Gates explained that growing up, she always loved horses. So, at the young age of six, she convinced her parents to let her take lessons at a local barn. Impressively, Jennifer began practicing with professionals by the age of eight.

She stated in the interview that she never thought of horse riding at a competitive level. Coming from a wealthy family, the 27-year-old comprehended the privileges that have allowed her to follow her equestrian passion full-fledged. Gates told in the interview that she would not have been able to excel in her passion without her parents, Bill and Melinda Gates’s support. She added, “I couldn’t do this without their support, both emotionally and with the horses. They cheer me on at every event.”

Saying this, Jennifer also revealed that her father, Bill Gates also enjoys the thrill of equestrianism and performs horse riding in his spare time. The world has rarely seen the Microsoft giant spending his day horse riding. But it is great to know that besides fully supporting her daughter’s equestrian passion, he also tried his hands at the sport.

Moreover, Bill Gates also modified the mansion with a stable, a barn, a field to practice, a guarded access road, a wine cellar, and a media room, perfect for his daughter’s horse riding practice. 

However, after the completion of the event, he bought the mansion. In fact, he bought other properties in the Palm Beach area and eventually owned an entire street in Wellington. He totally splurged $38.4 million for his daughter.
