The 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival asserted every element of thrill to its spectators. Along with hosting a multitude of horse racing events, the carnival also welcomed a hoard full of enthusiasts to the stands of Flemington, Australia. Now, as the viewers made a hefty presence to attend the event, the annual Group 1 thoroughbred horse racing event surpassed the previous year’s viewership.

The audience at the Melbourne Cup Carnival started reaching higher numbers. The numbers were ever-increasing until the pandemic caused the decline in numbers for the years 2021 and 22. However, the 2023 carnival saw a great amount of turnout in the stands. Interestingly, Princess Diana’s nieces, Lady Amelia, and Lady Eliza Spencer, also made their presence known as they graced the carnival as the judges of the Melbourne Cup’s Fashions in the Field event.

Audience sets a record at the 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival

Several racegoers were seen gathered at the Melbourne Cup Carnival , one of the biggest horse racing events. Breaking the records of previous years, the count reached more than one would have thought. 262,165 racegoers gathered for the Melbourne Cup final.

Taking to their X handle, the Victoria Racing Club posted a video of Melbourne Cup Carnival, flaunting a hoard full of audience cheering and expressing their elation all while attending the carnival. The tweet posted a compilation of the video from all the four events of the carnival- Penfolds Victoria Derby Day (November 4th), Lexus Melbourne Cup Day (November 7th), Kennedy Oaks Day (November 9th), TAB Champions Stakes Day (November 11th).

Applauding the record number of race goers this year, the Victoria Racing Club penned, “262,165 racegoers attended the greatest week on the global racing calendar”

This is one of the grandest horse racing events and brings in great revenue for the club. The Carnival witnessed some of the most royal attendees. Among them were late Princess Diana’s nieces, Lady Eliza Spencer and Lady Amelia Spencer, daughters of Late Princess Diana’s brother Earl Charles. They wore matching ensembles as they judged the fashion side of things at the carnival and took all the brownie points with thier bright presence.

The winner of the horse racing event

The king of the event was claimed by James McDonald. By claiming the champion stakes and defeating Damien Oliver in his final Melbourne week. It became the most lucrative season for McDonald, who won the Victoria Derby, Oaks and Cox Plate this year too.

In an interview with The Age.com, he talked about the event and called it outstanding. In the interview, he also said, “It is a pleasure to be riding here at these four days. Magnificent. I love it so much.”

The event was also a farewell event for Damien Oliver, who is hanging his boots after 27 years. With the horse racing goodness and the start-studded attendees Melbourne Cup will return for another season, hoping to break new records and make new ones.
