Around 3 months ago, the Gates household was blessed with a new member of the family. Bill Gates’s equestrian daughter Jennifer Gates gave birth to her first child, a baby girl, with her fellow equestrian husband Nayel Nassar. This brought so much joy into their lives, that the newly-turned-grandpa made a revelatory announcement, one that would benefit all humankind. Bill Gates decided to donate his entire $103 billion fortune to make this world a better place for the next generation, including his granddaughter. Today, sharing the same values as her dad, Jennifer Gates spreads a positive message that could also be revolutionary in changing the world for the good.

Kindness, the act of one human, being nice and polite to another, can go a long way in bridging gaps and mending broken relationships between living beings. As a new mother, as she looks out for her child in this world, Jennifer Gates seeks kindness from all.

How Jennifer Gates is spreading positivity into the world

Jennifer Gates recently took to her Instagram story and shared a post by Adam Grant. The story included a pictorial description of the importance of kindness, and why it’s so much more important than one can imagine. The question in the picture was, “Why you should be kind to people”. Below that was a mathematical set-based representation to explain the question.

It depicts a large blue circle, in which is written, “Someone’s life”. And within that circle, there is a minute circle, almost a dot, which is then arrowed out to represent “What you know about it”. It is essentially a clever way of saying that the knowledge each person possesses about someone else’s life is too little too less to judge them. Even when it seems that there’s enough information available on someone to deem them judge-worthy, there may still be another side of that story.

Hence, kindness always comes in handy and might actually help in doing something constructive as opposed to something negative. Adam Grant, an organizational psychologist, explained it better in his post.

The importance of kindness

Adam Grant shared a post that read, “Acts of kindness that feel small to us have a big impact on others… There’s no easier way to make someone’s day than to offer a compliment, give a little gift, or send a handwritten note”. He also shared research-backed information that explains how children and elders alike often ignore or overlook small acts of kindness, which should be taken note of. Grant also shared the source of such research as “Undervaluing the positive impact of kindness starts early” (Echelbarger & Epley)”.
