The forthcoming Breeders’ Stakes features a field of fourteen three-year-old horses. These horses include King’s Plate victor Paramount Prince, runner-up Elysian Field, Kaukokaipuu, and three entrants from trainer Kevin Attard. This race will unfold on Woodbine’s esteemed E.P. Taylor Turf Course, a renowned venue of horse racing.  The trainer Mark Casse, has entered two formidable contenders this year. They are Paramount Prince and Elysian Field simultaneously.

Paramount Prince secured victories in the Plate Trial and the King’s Plate. Also notched a third-place finish in the Prince of Wales Stakes. Meanwhile, Elysian Field clinched the Woodbine Oaks and claimed a second place in the Plate. Paramount Prince, bred by Ericka Rusnak, is poised to make his first lawn appearance in the Breeders’ Stakes. His consistency made a strong performance on grass. Kaukokaipuu, under the guidance of trainer Ted Holder, faced disappointment. With a 15th place in the Plate made a remarkable recovery with a compelling second place in the Prince of Wales Stakes.

In this upcoming race, Paramount Prince will venture onto the turf for the first time, with his ability to handle both the surface and distance. Trainer Kevin Attard, who claimed victory in last year’s Queen’s Plate, will be represented by four contenders. The contenders are Enjoythesilent, Philip My Dear, Tiburon, and Wickenheiser.

These horses vary in terms of their experience and success in the race. The Canadian Triple Crown comprises three prestigious horse racing events: the Queen’s Plate, the Prince of Wales Stakes, and the Breeders’ Stakes. Holder has high hopes that the horse will achieve success in this year’s Canadian Triple Crown. Yet he says, “On paper, he has run only one questionable race, which was the Plate” .

The Canadian Triple Crown holds a prestigious legacy in horse racing. It is the last successful Triple Crown campaign that achieved Wando in 2003. The Breeders’ Stakes promises a competition, with a diverse field of horses showcasing their unique strengths. The outcome of the race and the pursuit of the cagey Triple Crown title remain intriguing storylines.

Paramount Prince and his jockey, Patrick Husbands, are making their bid for the prestigious OLG Canadian Triple Crown. Trainer Mark Casse announced on Wednesday. It says that the Paramount Prince, in the saddle, is all set to compete in the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes. Paramount Prince had previously secured a wire-to-wire victory with a 1 1/2-length lead in the $1 million King’s Plate. Casse also revealed his intention to send Stayhonor Goodside to Fort Erie, with experienced jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson taking the command of the three-year-old.

Paramount Prince and Stayhonor Goodside’s dual threat in the Triple Crown

Casse admitted to some initial concerns about Paramount Prince’s performance on dirt. He said, “I always have concerns; I’m a horse trainer.” However, he added that Paramount Prince had trained exceptionally well on dirt during the winter at their Ocala, Florida facility. Paramount Prince’s remarkable victory in the King’s Plate saw him clocking in at two minutes and 1.93 seconds.

This win also marked Mark Casse’s third Plate title, although his first two victories were achieved with fillies, Lexie Lou in 2014 and Wonder Gadot four years later. Paramount Prince, a chestnut son of Platinum Steel, has an impressive record of three wins in six lifetimes. It started and has never finished outside of the top three positions. Patrick Husbands, the accomplished jockey guiding Paramount Prince, played a pivotal role in the last Canadian Triple Crown victory.
