Canadian horseback rider Eve Mainwaring was a dominant force in the equestrian circuit. From navigating geopolitical upheaval to adapting to new environments to reaching the pinnacle of her career, Mainwaring had covered it all. However, on 9th June, the legendary equestrian left the world for her heavenly abode and left the community to ponder over her legacy. 

Born in Estonia, Eve’s life took a transformative turn when she immigrated to Brockville in 1949. Settling into the converted St. Albans school, she crossed paths with Robert Mainwaring, the son of the school’s Headmaster, and their union shaped her destiny. Together, they embarked on a shared passion for horses, opening an equestrian facility on the school’s grounds in 1957. As the years passed, Eve’s presence in the equestrian community grew, and she became a co-owner of the renowned Canadian show-jumping horse, Big Ben. Her journey was not without its challenges, . Nonetheless, through her roles, Eve touched countless lives in the equestrian world. However, with her unfortunate passing, the equestrian community left saddened with the loss of one of its staunch members. 

Loss of a legendary equestrian

On the official Facebook page of 10x Olympian equestrians Ian Millar, Jonathon Millar, Amy Millar, and Kelly So, a heartfelt tribute was shared for the late equestrian legend. In the post, Ian Millar expressed deep sorrow, stating, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eve Mainwaring.” Recognizing her as an icon in Canadian equestrian sports, he reflected on her rich and fulfilling life, filled with horses.

Eve’s influence was far-reaching, as she not only coached Ian but also played a pivotal role in Jonathon and Amy’s equestrian journeys. Ian fondly recalled, “Millar Brooke Farm would not have become what it is today without Eve, and she will be greatly missed. Thank you for everything, Eve!” The equestrian community stands united in mourning. They reflect on Eve’s extraordinary contributions and the lasting impact she leaves behind.

The equestrian world mourns the loss of legendary Eve Mainwaring

The equestrian community’s response to Eve Mainwaring’s passing has been filled with heartfelt condolences and cherished memories. As one person expressed, “So sorry for your loss, sending hugs.” Another shared their deep sadness, saying, “We are so very sad to hear of her passing! We called on her advice a lot and Eve always answered.” Recognizing her impact, someone stated, “She was a great ambassador for the equestrian community and a life well lived.”
