As the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is inching nearer, the qualifying rounds for the fencing competitions are taking place with full momentum. At the Olympics stage altogether 212 fencers will be competing in twelve medal events in foil, épée, and Saber. The elemental qualifying stage for Saber fencing requires the competitors to gain the FIE Official Ranking points and qualify for the zonal tournaments.

Team USA Saber squad in both men’s and women’s categories are all set to compete at the FIE Senior World Cup scheduled from March 1-3. After gaining a position in the Top 4 countries, the Saber squad is ready for the next step to secure a berth at the Olympics.

Team USA looks for the top spot at the Saber qualifying round

The official Instagram account of USA Fencing took to announce the participation of the Team USA Saber squad at the FIE Senior World Cup. The post mentions, “Greece is the word this weekend for our Women’s Saber squad. Go Team USA!” Additionally, it mentions, “Padua is the place for our Men’s Saber squad this weekend. You got this, guys!”

As per the list mentioned in the infographics, Team USA is sending Nora Burke, Maia Chamberlain, Atara Greenbaum, Vera Kong, Alexandra Lee, Kara Linder, Vivian Lu, Tatiana Nazlymov, Lola Possick, Magda Skarbonkiewich, Siobhan Sulivan, and Elizabeth Tartakovsky to the Saber fencing event in the women’s category.

For the men’s qualifying round, the names include Lev Benavram, Eli Dershwitz Oly, Andrew Doddo, Filip Dolegiewicz, Colin Heathcock, Daryl Homer Oly, Cody Walter Ji, Andrew Makiewicz Oly, Will Morrill, Mitchell Saron, Khalil Thompson Oly, and Grant Williams.

Details on the Saber Qualifying Schedule

According to the schedule, the event begins on March 1, with the individual event in the preliminary round. On March 2, the individual events in the category of Table of 64 to finals will be held. Day 3 will mark the conclusion with the team events.

Team USA women’s Saber qualified for the Lima World Cup held from Feb 9-11 in Lima, Peru, whereas the men’s squad qualified at Tbilisi, Georgia to participate in the upcoming event. Altogether 197 individual fencers and 22 teams had participated at Tbilisi for the competition. At Lima, 148 individual fencers and 20 teams had taken part.
