USA’s Sensational Fencing Squad Clinch Gold to Shatter Five-Year Dynasty at 2023 Vets World Championship

As commenced on 11th October, World Vet Fencing Championships is taking place in Daytona Beach for the first time. In addition, USA, the first-time host, is leaving no stone unturned to make this event one of a kind. Along the same lines, USA’s fencing legends are making all possible efforts to make this event one of a kind while keeping up with the expectations of their nation. 

Notably, the first day marked the initiation of the task to etch the names of USA’s fencing legends in the annals of history. However, the USA’s exceptionally talented fencers have added another chapter by clinching gold while shattering a 5-year dynasty at the World Vet Fencing Championship 2023. How did the USA make this big move?

USA’s Fencing Squad Shattering “Five Years Streak”

The USA’s hosting has been fortunate for its fencing team as, from Day 1 of the event, they have been continuously under the spotlight. Similarly, the USA’s Men’s Vet Fencer’s team has clinched the gold medal in the Vet Men’s Saber Championship. In a recent story shared by USA Fencing on their Instagram handle, it was captioned, ” Team USA’s gold medal in the Vet Men’s Saber Team Event ensa a run of five straight for Italy, which has won in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022.”

On the other hand, Team Italy’s Vet Fencers has always been a center of attraction in world championships. However, something unexpected happened this year as they lost their 6th year in the streak. Although they have been champions for the past five years, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022, they could not secure the place this time.

Team USA’s fencers last held the title of World Champions in the same event in 2015 and 2016. However, the championship didn’t occur in 2020 and 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the USA’s fencing legends made a major comeback. In addition, the Men’s Vet Saber team featured remarkable talents, Steve Dashnaw, Garik Gutman, Steven Heck, Mark Lundborg, Joseph Streb, and Ron Thornton, who displayed their prowess in the arena. With this being said, how does Team USA look to make a change?

How is Team USA’s fencing squad making all the tables turn?

During a five-year dry spell, USA’s exceptionally talented fencers made it possible to emerge as an unwavering beacon. Meanwhile, the USA also significantly contributed to this achievement by training the fencers to make redemption while hosting the World Veterans Championship 2023. Moreover, team USA etched its name in the history of USA fencing on day 1. Julie Seals from Valkyrie Fencing Club clinched the gold and became the first American to win the World Vet-50 Women’s Foil Fencing Championship with two weapons.

Team USA’s fencing legends tallied 9 metals on the initial day of the event, contributed by both male and female fencers. Even though the women’s fencing team could not make it to gold, they stood second on the Vet Women’s Saber Championship podium. Finally, USA’s fencers have 11 gold medals, the highest gold in the World Vet-Fencing Championships 2023.
