Unfortunately, it is a sad day for US figure-skating athletes who still haven’t received the medals they won at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. In a recent Instagram story, Nathan Chen, an ace figure skater, expressed dissatisfaction that no final decision about giving the medals was taken yet. Captioning this Instagram Story as #MoreThanMedals, he also explained why it was important for the authorities to take action soon.

The reason athletes haven’t yet received their medals was Kamila Valieva’s doping scandal. Testing positive for banned substances such as trimetazidine, Valieva was still allowed to compete in the Beijing Winter Olympics. After she secured the gold medal and her test results became public, giving medals was delayed due to legal issues. This also affected the US figure skating team who had won silver by defeating Japan.

Continuing, he implied how the USA was proud of how its Olympic athletes had “carried themselves with poise and dignity,” after earning the medals. He further added, “They have long deserved the recognition that has been withheld due to the ongoing process.”

With these statements, he also hinted at the expectation of the US figure skating athletes. “US Figure Skating calls for a fair and appropriate ruling to rightfully award medals to all clean sport athletes affected by this situation.” These words indicate how Chen is deeply affected by the delay in giving medals to the deserving. This was not the only time Chen has spoken about not getting the medals due. Earlier, in 2022, Chen gave a very blunt and honest reaction to the fact that figure skating athletes have not yet received their medals due yet.
