The Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024 is all set to unfold in Gangwon province with much pomp and circumstance. Commonly known as Gangwon 2024, the fourth edition will set its sail this Jan. 19, concluding on Feb 1. The winter multi-sport event will witness unbelievable performances from youths of all echelons of social strata in a range of sports, including skating. Giving aspiring skaters the right push, none other than the decorated skater, Tomono Kazuki, aka the Master Oogway of the figure skating world, gave wunderkinds a hint of what success tastes like.

One of Japan’s finest exports, he is a global fan favorite for his marvelous figure skating performances and upbeat character, has something special to share with those participating in the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Known for representing Japan at three World Championships in figure skating, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take tidbits from him, wouldn’t it?

Tomono Kazuki is a wizened sage in the making

The official Twitter handle of “The Olympic Games,” @Olympics posted a clip featuring Tomono Kazuki as he shares his precious learnings to the YOG skaters. It captioned the post as, “Four-time Grand Prix medallist, Tomono Kazuki and his words of wisdom to the young skaters who are headed to compete at #Gangwon2024. #FigureSkating”

Just like his formidable opponent, the Japanese figure skating icon Yuzuru Hanyu, who is a two-time Olympic champion, Kazuki, hopes to urn the tide in the wunderkinds’ favor at YOG. seize the opportunity at YOG. The 2018 Rostelecom Cup bronze medalist, Tomono Kazuki, prompts all the young, enthusiastic skaters to seize the opportunity at YOG. In the audio-visual clip, he remarks, “To everyone participating in the Youth Olympic Games, I think, it once in a lifetime experience, it’s the Olympics so give it your all and do your best.” Moreover, he encourages them to continue pushing their boundaries to strive for excellence. The idea is to adopt a winning mindset and keep exploring, as he adds, So that you have no regrets!”

Kazuki, who has captivated the world with his performances, believes in the ideology of no regrets. In one interview, he remarked, “I believe that the accumulation of practice without regrets leads to strength,” as he keeps refining himself.

YOG fever grapples all and sundry

Indeed, the forthcoming Winter Youth Olympics is one of a kind event, which will witness a record participation of 1,900 athletes. With 10 days to its initiation, it will altogether feature 7 sports, across 15 disciplines and 51 events.

Besides figure skating, the event will also include snowboarding, cross-country skiing, bobsleigh, and more. The age requirement features athletes born between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2009. With the slogan “Grow Together, Shine Forever,” Gangwon 2024 will provide the right springboard for young athletes to take the opportunity to shine radiantly.
