Any sports fan can feel the excitement building as the Paris Olympics approaches. A piece of fresh news has just been released, adding to the deluge of news across the world. Kamila Valieva, the Russian figure skating star, will not be competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics since she was found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation.

Kamila Valieva’s ban went viral on the internet like wildfire. The notable figure skating athlete will not be appearing on the biggest stage of the sporting world, causing a total commotion globally. It was a reasonable commotion since this issue had been one of the most pressing concerns since the accusations on December 25, 2021. Team USA’s popular athletes like Nathan Chen are also eagerly awaiting their hard-earned medals, which have been withheld by the IOC due to the dispute.

On their X post, Figure Skaters Online announced the Russian figure skater’s suspension. According to the media release by CAS, the Russian skater has been further punished for the rule violation. The origin of all these problems may be traced to a figure skating event back in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Then, the 15-year-old Valieva tested positive for trimetazidine. The cardiac medication increases endurance, for which it is banned from use in any event, by the World Doping Agency. The Russian team did achieve more points than the competitors, the USA and Japan; however, they have to surrender their medals due to the controversy.

Further evidence that the athlete had taken the medications by mistake was provided by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). However, RUSADA’s claims were immediately questioned by both the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Skating Union (ISU).

The forthcoming sports fiesta in Paris will not include the Russian skater because of the penalties, which will last four years as it was initiated on December 25, 2021. Team USA might also be getting back their gold, which was taken away from them. However, the final decision regarding the medal is yet to be made.
