The internet receives the Dave Portnoy shock

Dave Portnoy recently took to X and added a tweet after the victory of Michigan against Alabama. The tweet carried the caption, “Michigan vs Washington will be a war. The 2 best teams in the country. Washington is great and they have been disrespected all year. Great team.”

These words have shocked everyone since this isn’t the usual Dave Portnoy everyone knows. Portnoy is very intense when it comes to football, especially when Michigan is involved. His usual pre-match tweets include how the Wolverines will absolutely destroy the opposition. But, this seems to be a rare occasion when Portnoy’s tweet is offering compliments to the other team.

Dave Portnoy loves betting on football. While he has lost a lot of money on other teams, his alma mater team has always earned him heaps of money. In fact, he just earned a million dollars after Michigan’s thrilling victory which confirmed its berth in the finals. While Portnoy was heavily cheering for the Wolverines throughout the game, there was a point when someone as loud as him became nervous.

When heartbeats sounded louder than cheers

The Michigan Wolverines didn’t have a peaceful victory over Alabama. The players in maize and blue had to fight hard for the win as the match went into overtime. Dave Portnoy was very worried about his team during halftime, as Michigan had a very small lead by that point. Although Portnoy did have a large bet placed on Michigan, he also has a lot of sentimental value attached to the team.

The Michigan Wolverines is one of the most popular collegiate football programs in the US. However, while the team has a very rich past, its present isn’t very great. Especially considering the fact that while Michigan has won 11 national championships, its last win came in 1948. Is this the reason why Dave Portnoy is being so humble right now?
