At just 24, Carlos Yulo has already etched his name in history as the most successful gymnast the Philippines has ever produced. His breathtaking performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics not only secured him a place in the record books but also made him a national hero. Yulo became the first Filipino to win individual Olympic gold, and he didn’t stop there—he did it twice, making the podium in multiple events. The world was at his feet, and his future looked even brighter. But behind the glory, a storm was brewing.

After putting Team Philippines Gymnastics on the map, the 10x Asian Champion became embroiled in a headline-making family feud. Shortly after winning double gold medals for his nation, Carlos Yulo took to TikTok on August 6. The athlete accused his mother Anjelica Yulo of financially mismanaging and misleading him while attempting to shift the blame to his girlfriend.
Yulo’s mother addressed these allegations in a press conference the following day. She expressed remorse for her actions but added that she did so to secure her son’s future. Now, Chavit Singson is ready to offer the athlete $87,364 if he resolves the family conflict. “If they [Carlos and his family] are together, I will give them 5 million pesos,” the entrepreneur said in a Facebook video.

Entrepreneur and former politician felt proud alongside the rest of the nation as Yulo made history. However, the headline-grabbing dispute cast a grim shadow on Yulo’s moment of glory. “I aim to convey a powerful message that an individual’s success is never theirs alone… It is shared by those who stand by them, offering love, guidance, and unwavering support.” Singson added.
Carlos Yulo explained in his TikTok that his mother had access to his account, and when he got control of the account the numbers didn’t add up. Anjelica Yulo didn’t deny the accusation and apologized to the 24-year-old. “I was worried that my child might have financial problems in the future. So I invested it under my name,” said Yulo, as per The Sun. However, despite the controversy, the Filipino gymnast has already earned significant rewards.

The nation collectively celebrated Carlos Yulo’s achievements
Carlos Yulo’s triumph at the Paris 2024 Olympics has not only cemented his status as a national hero but also brought him unimaginable rewards. Beyond the accolades, Yulo has been showered with gifts that reflect his historic achievements. The Philippines government, along with influential figures like Chavit Singson, has collectively offered Yulo a staggering 58 million pesos ($1,015,051). Among the most lavish rewards is a luxury apartment in the heart of Manila—a three-bedroom condo valued at $414,000, according to the New York Post.

But the rewards don’t stop there. Yulo has also been gifted a departmental store worth $20,000 and, in a show of admiration from Toyota Motor Philippines, the promise of a Land Cruiser Prado SUV. These tokens of appreciation have transformed the 24-year-old gymnast into a living legend, a figure revered throughout the nation for his extraordinary accomplishments.
Yet, amid the celebrations, a personal storm brews. The ongoing family dispute, particularly with his mother, has cast a shadow over his hard-earned victories. This conflict has been a thorn in Yulo’s side, marring what should be the pinnacle of his career. As the nation watches, the question remains—will the 2x world champion reconcile with his mother, potentially earning yet another $87,364 in the process? Only time will tell if this chapter in Yulo’s life will end in peace or continued strife.
