Gabby Douglas Falls Twice in Horrifying Bars Attempt Putting Her US Classic 2024 Podium at Risk

Gabby Douglas’s comeback event in the US Classic faced a stiff challenge after her bar routine in the same contest. On Saturday, Gabby was announcing her gymnastic return after an 8-year hiatus. Since the start, she was seen in an uneasy move, gathering 25.450 from her first two events. However, coming in the third event, eventually a bar schedule, Gabby Douglas found herself losing the medal chance. In the said schedule, the subsequent two falls decimated her scoring probability of reaching 51 points, which was a minimum requirement to end at the podium.

However, the 28-year-old gymnast attempted the Double Twisting Yurchenko in the previous event on the vault. Nevertheless, in completing that event, Gabby Douglas displayed her old form that had earned her three Olympic gold medals once. But on Saturday, her performances didn’t highlight that austerity. Instead, a determination was visible there. 

In her first schedule on Saturday, Gabby Douglas survived tumble scares. But subsequently, in the next event of the vault, she set up her high chance of attempting the DTY. In the next schedule, Gabby Douglas couldn’t continue her successful run and faced the horrifying falls. But on her last exercise on the beam, Gabby Douglas tried to regain her confidence.

After brushing away the heartbreaks from her previous performances, Gabby Douglas put 13.350 on the leaderboard in the beam event. Furthermore, her score in the beam routine remained one of the major takeaways from the day. At the end. Gabby’s achievement on the uneven bars helped her to migrate through names like Suni Lee and Bryan Torry on the scoreboard. But a tenth-place finish she could only clinch after the gymnastic battle was over. 

With that, her Paris Olympics participation dream also looks to be in deep water. The 3x Olympic gold medalist had to earn her entry to the trial event by achieving a podium finish there. But the disheartening scoreline almost put a knell on that dream. But Gabby Douglas will not go out of options to chase her Paris Olympics dream.

After spending an 8-year hiatus, Gabby Douglas had been finally up to announce her gymnastics return. The 2024 Winter Cup could have been her first chance to announce the much-discussed return. But the COVID-19 scare prolonged her absence from the mat. Eventually, she missed a call-up to the Baku World Cup team for the USA. But on April 28, the former all-around champion was desperate to craft her return. In contrast, things didn’t pan out on her side. 

Now after tasting this defeat, Gabby will be looking for another challenge keeping the Paris Olympics berth at the forefront. In one of her interviews, the gymnast informed about her minimized addiction to other things, only to channel her momentum toward Olympic preparation. Her coach Anna Liukin also informed about Gabby’s unwavering determination to grab a berth. But the gymnastic world will have to wait further to have the conclusive answer to this participation question.
