“It’s Just Never Been Fair for Me”: American Gymnastics Star Makes Heartbreaking Confession Years After Retirement

MyKayla Skinner, after prolonged waiting and winning the odds, is an Olympian. This 26-year-old gymnastics star is a well-known name for throwing both hard tricks and harder glares. Even after facing considerable conflicts, Skinner managed to get through to the 2021 Tokyo Olympic games and earned a silver medal.

However, after retiring from the sport, she is now an active YouTuber. In fact, recently, she took to her YouTube channel to talk about her life after the Olympics, and the confrontation with the odds that she had to surpass to etch her name in the Games.

MyKayla Skinner recently shared a video on her channel, named after herself, where she disclosed some heartfelt confessions about the hardships she had to face. The gymnast sat for a conversation with her husband Jonas Harmer, and shared how she edged out dozens of participants to get through to the Games. Although that didn’t click, after finishing fourth all-around, she was selected as an alternative in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

However, During the interview, she stated, “My life’s just been hard like gymnastics it’s just never been fair for me I’ve had to go through so much cr**, so much politics, and so much hate.” After fighting with the odds, Skinner was so close to the 2021 Winter Cup but had to withdraw herself after being diagnosed with COVID-19. But she pulled through, and did her best to secure a place in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

In the Olympic trials, Skinner finished 5th, and was about to represent the U.S.A. in a non-nominative spot. But it was a contradictory decision, as per the two-per-country rule. Evidently, Simone Biles and Jade Carey were on the list before her, and for her to reach the finals, one of them needed to be edged out. Fortunately for her, soon after the selection, Biles withdrew herself and that gave her a chance to pursue her dreams. And she did that, by winning silver on the vault.

This was indeed her metamorphosis, as there have been numerous criticisms that she had to stand against. And she did. “And to be able to push through it, fight through it and not let it stop me from achieving my one end goal you know, I got the medal and I proved a lot of people wrong and got to let people see the real me, and know the real me…”
