Gymnastics News: Suni Lee Declined US Selection Camp Invite, Coach Breaks Silence

An Olympic all-around champion, Suni Lee has lately declared her absence from the USA Training Camp that is scheduled at the beginning of April 2024. Her coach mentioned some genuine causes that needed her to drop off the Camp Invite.

Not a part of the invite henceforth, Suni Lee would be starting with her Olympic season with the American Classic scheduled to be held between April 25 and 28 in Katy, Texas, and would later on target the May’s US Classic.

A World Champion in the floor and uneven bar routines, Suni Lee’s prime participation in the upcoming Classics would lead her to qualify for the 2024 US Championships, which would further lead to the Olympic Trials and then the grandiose Paris Olympics. According to our source, Inside Gymnastics, her coach, Jess Graba, announced her reason for not going to the USA Camp Invite. He declared that Lee is focusing on training right now, “and trying to put some upgraded routines together for the next couple meets.”

Though taken aback by her name not being in the USA Gymnastics’ roaster, the 21-year-old, Suni Lee had lately in February 2024, showcased a marvelous display of a fresh element called the full twisting layout Jaeger in the Winter Cup. The prime goal to be successful at the Winter Cup however was to equate into another competition, in which Suni Lee wanted to get her name inscribed.

Targeting the Baku World Competition in which Suni Lee was aiming to clinch a skill on her name, her coach demonstrated the athlete’s reason for choosing the Winter Cup over anything else first. “The whole reason we’re doing Winter Cup is so that we can go to [the Baku World Cup competition] and get the skill named because Suni really wants to get that out of the way”, Jess Graba told Olympics.com.

Though the gymnast failed to achieve the Baku Title, in spite of being very keen, she however now looks forward to the 2024 Paris Olympics, after surpassing the American and US Classics in the months of April and May. To conclude, Suni Lee has been transpiring through her regular training sessions at present, while also considering some new elements added to her last Olympics’ (Tokyo, 2020) ‘signature elegant style and attention to detail’.
