

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, USA women’s gymnastics got its new star. After reigning all-around champion Simone Biles withdrew from the competition, Suni Lee stepped up. She performed exceptionally well and won gold in the all-around event. Lee also won a silver in the team event and a bronze on uneven bars. Over a year has passed since Lee’s monumental achievement, and athletes are looking forward to Paris 2024.

However, Suni is unsure if she wants to push to qualify for Paris. While talking to People magazine, the 19-year-old revealed her goals for the future.

Will team USA’s new star go to Paris?
In a recent conversation with People, Suni said, “I don’t know,” when asked about the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. The gold medalist also said, “Yeah, I’m still making a decision.” However, Lee provided a slightly positive answer as well. She said, “I’m definitely starting to take it day by day, just trying to figure out what I want to do, and yeah, hopefully.” While the gold medalist is unsure about going to Paris, she is clear about one of her goals.

Suni also said she wants to be an inspiration to others. “That’s kind of the goal, I think, to be an inspiration to others,” said the Olympic gold medalist. Lee is aware of this and is happy she made “a big impact on others.” She said, “I never really had somebody that looked like me, I guess, competing at the Olympics.”

After Simone Biles withdrew in the middle of the 2021 Olympic Games, Suni had some big shoes to fill. Biles broke records with her historic performance in 2016, however, Lee rose to the occasion and bagged three Olympic medals at 18.

However, similar to Biles, Suni has also opened up about her mental health. Since her phenomenal showing in Tokyo, Suni has been dealing with anxiety. While Lee hasn’t stopped competing, she considered doing so a few times after her big win.

Suni Lee has been on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
Apart from winning Olympic medals, the 19-year-old is also a talented dancer. After the Tokyo Olympics, Suni took part in the popular show, Dancing with the Stars. She joined the 30th edition of the show with Sasha Farber as her partner. The duo of Lee and Farber made it to the semifinals of DWTS.

After capturing the limelight at the Tokyo Olympics, Suni Lee has quickly become a star. Suni’s stint at DWTS made her even more famous. However, just like Simone Biles, Lee also prioritized her mental health. While Lee still hasn’t decided about competing in Paris, there’s plenty of time to make up her mind.
