Simone Biles, the gymnastics superstar, is an inspiration to every aspirant in the field of gymnastics. Her parents, Ron and Nellie, identified her talent by watching her somersaulting playfully at home without being bothered about the dangers it involved.

A champion’s biggest goal is to break their previous record. With a similar spirit, the incredibly talented Simone went on to attempt some of the hardest and most dangerous moves. Reportedly, the gymnastics legend got penalized in 2019 for trying risky maneuvers. Fans lashed out, calling it unfair. A Twitter user compared the rationality of the penalization by quoting the speed of Michael Phelps.
Simone Biles should be celebrated, not penalized
The gymnastics G.O.A.T‘s thirst to attempt the impossible is not always received well with the same spirit. Fans were shocked when they got to know that they penalized the gymnastics icon for attempting challenging moves. A fan wrote, “This is like speeding up Michael Phelps’s clock while keeping everyone else’s the same simply because he was too dominant.”

He also added the greatness of the legend should be celebrated, not penalized. It makes one wonder whether it is wrong to be exceptional. Reportedly, the federation expressed the safety of the athletes as the rationality behind penalization and to prevent any life-threatening situations.
“Am I in a league of my own? Yes. But that doesn’t mean you can’t credit me for what I’m doing,” Biles stated in an interview after learning of the decision by the WTC (Women’s Technical Committee).

Simone reacts to the decision
Fair to say a sport evolves when players bring more innovation to it. “They keep asking us to do more difficulty and to give more artistry, give more harder skills,” Simone stated. “So we do, and then they don’t credit it, and I don’t think that’s fair.”

Biles is ambitious to increase her difficulty. Impossible to disagree, she has the knack for making the challenging ones look effortless. “This is an incredibly difficult dismount and you make it look ‘too easy,’” Cecile Landi, Biles’ coach, once said on Twitter. “Keep doing YOU.”

It is also interesting to note that her coaches were encouraging in bringing novelty to the art form. In an interview, Biles mentioned her coach, Laurent Landi, who came up with crazy ideas. “Then he has to kind of push me toward it until I’m ready to do it myself. And then I’m like, OK, it’s not that bad.’” she added.
