

Gymnastics is a sport that needs both physical and mental strength from an athlete. This highly demanding sport and requires tons of strength and agility. A promising gymnast needs the perfect balance between mind and body. While the sport looks extremely impressive, the work behind the scenes is insane. Therefore, the gymnasts often grip the audience, keeping them on the edge of their seats. Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, had similar thoughts regarding this sport.

The former President and the First Lady, Michelle Obama, once revealed their favorite Olympic sport in a video. They discussed the competitions during the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, before picking a favorite, the former President shared his opinions on gymnastics. And how it can be nerve-breaking sometimes.
Gymnastics gets Obama tensed
The YouTube video was titled ‘President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on Favorite Olympic Memories’. The couple asked each other questions based on their memories of the Olympics. While doing so, when Michelle asked Barack about his favorite Olympic sport; the then-US President admitted how gymnastics is a spectacular sport to watch. Notably, gymnasts would perform incredible tricks and turn upside down, which impressed the President. However, there was a catch.

The then-President mentioned how watching gymnastics got stressful for him. He exclaimed, “But… It’s too tense. I’m like, oh ? she going to fall.” Since the sport tends to keep its audience on the edge, it is natural for the former President to get stressed. He then went on to choose the 200m race as his favorite Olympic sport.

Incidentally, Michelle Obama mentioned how she wished she could compete in gymnastics. Although she did not have the appropriate height, she found the sport fascinating. In fact, in 2019, she applauded star gymnast Simone Biles for her performance at the World Championships.
Simone had won five of the six gold medals and secured the top place across different categories. She also created a new record for winning world medals. That was one of the key moments in the star gymnast’s life.
