Jeanté Godlock played Biles in the biopic, and people couldn’t help but notice the uncanny resemblance. In February 2018, Godlock appeared in a live interview where the hosts asked her why she played Biles. Godlock revealed how people convinced her to audition for the role.

Jeanté Godlock appeared for a live interview on KTLA5 to promote her film, “The Simone Biles Story: Courage to Soar.” While talking about why she wanted to star in the movie, Godlock revealed her initial reluctance. “You know, it’s so funny because initially, I didn’t jump right on it. During Rio, a lot of people told me you know you look like that gymnast. You look just like Simone Biles.”

However, just because people said she looked like Simone in 2016 didn’t push her to audition for the biopic. Jeanté revealed, around the same period, she was also doing a TV show called Game Shakers. “One of the principal actors said, you know, does anybody ever tell you, you look like Simone Biles?”, Godlock told the hosts.

A senior actor also pointed out the similarity between Godlock and Simone Biles. She became convinced. “The next day I sent in a submission and the rest is history,” said the then-29-year-old-actress. Godlock also said she could do some basic gymnastic tricks that helped her land the role.

Jeanté also revealed what the audience could take away from the film. She said that the film is inspirational, but at the core, “The film is so much about support and family, sacrifice and resilience.”

How people reacted to the biopic

The biopic was a “TV movie” that aired on February 3, 2018. The film got a positive response from fans. While the IMDb score of the movie is 6.3 out of 10, the reviews left by audiences on google reviews and IMDb are even better. 

The film showcases Simone’s early struggles and sacrifices before finding success on the biggest stage in the world of sports. It also won two Leo Awards.
