Florida Gators’ Leanne Wong is grabbing attention and titles at an accelerated pace this gymnastics season. As the No. 5 Florida defeated the No. 2 LSU by a final score 198.150-197.950 in the Feb. 23 dual meet, Wong secured a prestigious honor. She grabbed her first title of the 2024 SEC Gymnast of the Week ending on Feb. 27. And, now just a few hours later, she has accumulated yet another phenomenal title.

Conquering the “gym slam” with a score of perfect 10, Leanne Wong is the 15th gymnast in NCAA history to be awarded with it. She has achieved numerous collegiate bests across her gymnastics career, and her recent title validates her dominance on the mat.

15th in NCAA History to claim Gym Slam

The official Instagram account of Florida Gators Gymnastics, @gatorsgym took to post the phenomenal milestone of the junior gymnast Leanne Wong. The caption to the post celebrates this, as it reads, “gym SLAM 💥Only 15 gymnasts have achieved a Gym Slam, congratulations @leanne.wong!” It was accompanied with the hashtags, #GoGators and #WeChomp.

Against the LSU, Wong had capped the perfect 10.0 on-floor routine. She had secured an all-around score of 39.875. Additionally, the image also mentions the occasions on which Wong achieved the perfect score, which helped her win the gym slam. Besides the floor routine on Feb 23, her perfect 10.0 on bars (January 28, 2022), beam (January 13, 2023), and vault (March 2, 2022) are a part of her spectacular record gym slam.

Wong secured four event wins for the Gators against LSU. Her career event wins in total have now surpassed 50. With 52 career wins, she is tied for the 12th place. She also led the Gators with 15 event titles in 2024.

Leanne Wong wins SEC Gymnast of the Week

Wong’s nation-high score at 39.875 contributed to her fourth all-around title as a part of her junior season. She received the SEC title alongside her Gators teammate Anya Pilgrim. Wong’s total score also equals the collegiate high.

As the Gators secured a phenomenal victory over LSU, they are guaranteed at least a share of the 2024 SEC regular-season title. If the Gators manage to triumph, it will be Florida’s sixth consecutive title. Wong’s contribution is elemental to helping the Gators pitch towards success.
