“We’re Gonna Take Care”: Simone Biles’ Future Husband Jonathan Owen Revealed How His Team Didn’t Give Up on Him During His 2018 Injury

It’s hard to stay injury free in a full-contact sport like American Football, especially when you’re regularly tackling other players. However, Jonathan Owens suffered a setback weeks before his career began. Simone Biles’ future husband tore a ligament in his knee during practice. While the sudden injury had a tremendous impact on Jonathan’s morale, Owens’ team came through.
Not only did the Arizona Cardinals not give up on him, they also assured Jonathan that he’d come back stronger. In a 2019 interview, Owen recalled the injury, how it affected him and how his team reacted.

Owens’ football career began with adversity
Jonathan Owens has been playing football since he was a kid. Owens also remained, mostly injury-free, but only weeks after the Arizona Cardinals picked him up, tragedy truck. In July 2019, the NFL safety opened up about what happened in 2018. During the last week of the offseason, the young prospect tore his ACL. A massive injury that takes a month to heal. Owens said, “I’m just laying on the ground crying… I’m thinking, I came all the way here and got hurt,”. However, Owen’s team didn’t give up on him.
Jonathan said, “I’m laying in the training room, towel on my head, and this guy from the front office comes down, taps me on the shoulder.”; The man said they had noticed Owens’ dedication and told him, “I can guarantee you two things: We’re gonna take care of you for this season and you’re gonna come back stronger from this.”

It was an unexpected gesture from a team he hadn’t even played for yet. Jonathan said, “I took that to heart.”; While the Cardinals showed incredible faith in their new signing, Owens didn’t get to play for the NFL franchise. In 2019, after the Cardinals waived him 2019, Owens joined the Houston Texans.

Originally booked for the Texans’ practice squad, Biles’ husband-to-be is currently part of the active roster. Owens has also been doing well in his role and recently broke the franchise record for most tackles through week 2 of the regular season.
