“I Buried My Olympic Medals”: US 4x Olympic Star Makes a Shocking Reveal on Her Priceless Possessions

One of the biggest moments of her career came at the 2008 Beijing Olympics when her near-flawless moves earned her a gold medal in the balance beam competition. Today, 10 gold medals in all competitions, and 15 years later, Shawn Johnson East is living a blissful retired life. However, besides her normal family life, the gymnastics sensation also shared a quirky fact about her gold medal recently, as to where she hid it. Whether she is simply unburdened by the value of it or she cares too much about it to hide it in a very secretive place is just not known.

Shawn Johnson East recently spoke about her family, her time with kids, and how she spends her weekends. Amidst all that, she also shared that she hid her Olympic gold medal inside deep beneath the ground.

Shawn Johnson East is married to NFL star Andrew Dean East and the two have a son and a daughter together. Currently enjoying every moment she spends with her family, Johnson East recently spoke to US Weekly about her present-day life, while reminiscing about the glorious moments in her professional gymnastics career i.e. the Beijing Olympics.

She said to US Weekly, “I buried my Olympic medals in my backyard” when the topic inevitably shifted from her personal life to her professional life. Johnson East, however, doesn’t deny that the moment she was crowned the Olympic champion remains “the proudest moment of my career”. She provided no further reason behind her quirky manner of hiding her medals in her backyard.

Johnson East not only won the Olympic gold in the 2008 Olympics. She also 3 silver medals in the artistic team all-around, artistic individual all-around, and floor exercise respectively. That edition of the Olympics changed her life.

Like Simone Biles, East also started pursuing her love for gymnastics from a very young age. She got into gymnastics when she was 3 years old. Johnson East’s first big moment before the Olympics came in 2007, when she won multiple gold medals at the Stuttgart World Championships and the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. She won a combined 8 gold medals in those competitions and went into the Beijing Olympics fully prepared. Those few years remain the most cherished in her life.

However, today, the 31-year-old former gymnast is living her retired life “grilling” by the “poolside” on Saturday evenings and watching a movie with her family while eating takeout on a Sunday night. With all her achievements to her name, Johnson East is happy spending most of her time with her family now.
