On September 14, 2022, Jonathan Owens appeared in a Q&A session. Owens’ team, the Houston Texans, streamed the session on their YouTube channel. During the stream, the interviewer asked Owens, “What is your favorite sport besides football?”. To the surprise of the interviewer and probably many fans, Owens answered, “Basketball.” Hearing his answer, the interviewer joked, “I thought you were gonna say gymnastics.” However, the Texans’ safety immediately said, “I might get in trouble cause I didn’t.

“I was a basketball player first. I didn’t play football until I was twelve, but I played basketball since I was eight,” said Owens. Then she asked if it was a hard decision to stop playing basketball. To which Owen simply answered, “No, I was 5’10”, so I realized that it wasn’t gonna be for me.”

The NFL star also mentioned that he played basketball until his sophomore year. Owens ultimately chose football over basketball and things have been going his way. Within a very short time, Owens went from the Texans’ practice squad to the active roster. While a wrist injury hampered his progress, Owens has continued to improve.
