“No Evidence She Lied”: Accused Of Fake COVID, Gabby Douglas Receives Mass Support From Gymnastics Fans

The 2024 Winter Cup was one of the highly anticipated gymnastics events to kick off the Olympic year for the US. The three Olympic all-around champions, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and Suni Lee gracing the mats all at the same time was a thought of celebration and heightened joy amongst the fans. However, all were shattered by the event’s arrival.

Simone Biles was the first to withdraw from the inaugural gymnastics event with no particular reason stated. However, just as enthusiasts made peace with the fact and awaited Gabby Douglas’ comeback after 8 years, the gymnast announced her absence. The reasoning for the same followed by her withdrawal from WOGA has now sparked a debate about credibility amongst the fans.

Gabby Douglas sparks a response from enthusiasts over absence

Gabby Douglas announced her comeback to gymnastics later in 2023. Stating that she never officially retired, the 3-time Olympian iterated she loved the sport and was back for good. The news was followed by grueling training updates, progress on skills, and hope for Paris 2024. In the process, the gymnast let the realm know that she was going to be back on mats at the 2024 Winter Cup. However, with a couple of days to go for the event, the gymnast announced that she was pulling out marking the initial step to an eventual decision to leave WOGA.

“I’m crushed, but I’ll see you guys soon!” Gabby Douglas wrote on social media reporting Winter Cup withdrawal. The Olympian added that she had tested positive for COVID-19 hence prompting the decision. And today, just a few days after the news and Winter Cup, the Olympic gold medalist has announced to leave WOGA Gymnastics. The culmination of the events brought along an online discussion about the ‘truthfulness’ of Gabby’s COVID claim. However, the icon also found backing in the online community itself.

Fans jump in defense of the Olympian

Just as accusations of Gabby Douglas faking her COVID for the Winter Cup over WOGA news hit social media, fans were quick to reason the situation and jump in support. “Do not suggest that Gabby Douglas was faking her COVID positive. We’re in the middle of a COVID spike…” one of them wrote.

The next one reasoned how it would be wrongful to fake COVID and there was no evidence Douglas provided misinformation. “There’s no evidence she lied,” another started.

The next the post speculated wrongful hand of her coach, backed by the unforeseen announcement. “I hope Liukin hasn’t been rude with her…” they wrote.

Nonetheless, whatever the situation behind the scenes, fans let Gabby Douglas know they were here for her. “Sending only positive and supportive vibes,” one wrote.

It was further followed by “Guuurrrrrlllll knows her worth,” applauding the Olympian for her stand.

Through hiatus, comeback, and rise through the pinnacle, Gabby Douglas has made her prominence and excellence known to have the enthusiasts stand up in defense and of admiration.
