60-year-old Curse Shatters After Canadian Gymnast Clinches Gold At Pan American Games 2023

October is here, and so is the Pan-American Games. Scheduled from October 20 to November 5, the Pan American Games have officially begun in Santiago, Chile. A total of 6909 participants from 41 American countries are competing in a multitude of sporting categories. With the battle so fierce, the competition demands the best from every athlete. On the same note, the 21-year-old Canadian has shown his mettle to the world.

Canadian gymnast Félix Dolci took the spotlight. Since entering his first tournament in 2009, Canada’s rising gymnast has gone on to win more than 200 medals and prizes, including sporting merits and other distinctions. With anticipation in his heart, Dolci has secured gold in the men’s artistic gymnastics all-around. But is that all? Certainly not. Having done that, he has officially ended the 60-year-old curse for Canada. After 60 long years, Canada has won gold at the Pan American Games.

The stage was set, and the mat was laid. It all happened on Monday, October 23. Canada’s Felix Dolci secured the top spot in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics. Dolci finished the competition with a score of 82.531.

But that was not all that Dolci contributed. In the Instagram story shared by the Olympics, it is now established how Dolci created history for Canada. His win comes after 60 long years. The 21-year-old is the first Canadian gymnast to secure gold in the Pan-American since 1963’s Wilhelm Weiler.

The story posted showcased Dolci at the event. Dressed in red, he exemplified perfection in all the senses. The story was captioned, “AN EPIC DAY IN ARTISTIC GYM KICKED OFF WITH THE FIRST ALL-AROUND GOLD FOR CANADA SINCE THE 1963 PANAM GAMES. CONGRATS FELIX.”

Having said that, it truly is a big moment for all Canadians. But who did Dolci compete against?

Gold, silver, and bronze

Strength, flexibility, and the ability to transition between different side of the equipment is what is demanded from a gymnast. But that’s not all. Exercises in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics involve working on six apparatuses: Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar. Having said that, Dolci made sure to deliver his best.

Felix Dolci was a professional on the mats. He accumulated 82.531 points after scoring more than 14 points in four of the six apparatuses. His score was higher than Brazilian Diogo Soares’ 81.865, who secured the second spot. Following the two, the bronze medalist was America’s Donnell Whittenburg, scoring 81.764. As the trio advances to the Olympics, all that can be hoped from them is that they give their finest performances in Paris.
